Ryder Cup European Development Trust

Switzerland to promote the game of golf and in particular team golf. The event is a successful junior team event which involves approximately a quarter of the country’s golf clubs (26 out of 94). Previously known as the Junioren Ryder Cup, the event has been supported by the Ryder Cup European Trust since 2010 as the Frey & Cie Junior Major.

The Frey & Cie Junior Major is a very popular and well received golf tournament throughout Switzerland, attracting much media interest. The format of the tournament offers teams of seven players (at least one of whom must be a girl) the chance to play in both foursomes and singles matches. The event has a preliminary round, semi-finals and then a grand final which involves the top four teams from the semi-finals.

The ethos of the event is to promote golf for juniors and particularly team work. In 2010 some junior golfers were so keen to participate that they actually formed their own team in order to take part in 2011! The winning team receives 4,000 Swiss Francs which is ploughed back into the respective club’s junior golf programme.
