M2M Russian Open Helps Grow the Game

Posted on: 27th Jul 2013

The M2M Russian Open provided the perfect opportunity to introduce the people of Russia to the game of golf at Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club thanks to free lessons provided by The European Tour, The Ryder Cup European Development Trust, The R&A, The PGAs of Europe and The PGA of Russia.

“It has been a really successful week for us here at Tseleevo,” said Lacey. “We gave hundreds of lessons to men, woman and kids of all ages and the people seemed really keen to see what golf was all about.

Thanks to a joint initiative between the aforementioned governing bodies of the sport, hundreds of Russian spectators at this week’s event enjoyed free golf lessons, which included video swing analysis and expert advice from local professionals from the PGA of Russia.

RCEDT - European Tour - Russia_01_smThe initiative, operated on the ground by provisiongolf, travels to many of the world’s most underdeveloped golfing nations with one goal: to encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to get into golf.

Malcom Lacey, himself a PGA qualified professional Event Manager for provisiongolf, has taken the initiative around the globe and was delighted with the uptake in Russia.

“There were some encouraging signs among some of the younger kids that received free lessons and we hope that this is the first stage in people taking up the game and giving it a go. That is the whole point of the initiative: to introduce as many people as possible to a new sport and to try and keep growing golf around the world.”
